Aircraft restoration project (Wood, balsa, resin & mixed media)
Another restoration project, this work required an enormous amount of time and effort to complete. This model is over a metre long and about as wide. A novel concept this plane possesses is the top roof can be easily lifted off revealing the rows of seats, galleys and bathrooms inside the plane. The wheels are fixed in position and it can hold its own weight well.
Almost in a state of disrepair initially, the model needed to be totally sanded back, the entire interior removed, missing pieces scratch built and the whole aircraft completely repainted. The seats were originally built out of thin sheet wood, but had suffered in long years of storage so these were remade out of resin castings, not only as an experiment but to provide more detail. The flaps and elevators have all been scratch built out of balsa to help keep the weight down and the landing gear has been built out of metal and old Scalextric car wheels.
